ARMED ROBBERY: Targets Women Dentists

Armed Robbery with potential serial pattern and growing sexual aggressiveness

FIRST REPORTED CASE

On 14 May 2011, a man consulted with the female dentist in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. But after his treatment, he tied her up, ransacked the clinic for valuables, and masturbated in front of the dentist. It is not clear from report if he waited to be treated after the other patients have left; or he had himself treated according to priority order but waited in the reception area until the other patients left.

The same thing happened in Sangandaan on May 17, and in Project 3 on May 31, using the same pattern of behavior.

Paco

On May 2, the robber did the same modus operandi but this time he raped the dentist, apparently the first case with this development in the serial pattern. If this is performed by the same person, he may have been emboldened after the police failed to catch him.

MAYBE RELATED CASES

Similar cases were reported in Marikina and Antipolo in March. But there is no detail on the actual behavior reported.

Male, 30-35 yrs. old, approx. 5 ft. 6 in. tall, medium build, dark skin

Armed (a handgun, knife and tear gas canister)

ANALYSIS

Information Gaps

It is not clear whether the suspect tarried awhile after his treatment, waiting for the other patients to leave, or waived his priority in favor of other patients, and purposefully had himself treated last. It is expected but apparently not yet being done that the police will have obtained information on what aliases that the suspect used for his medical records in each of the victims' clinic. Comparing these information can help in potentially locating the suspect's true residence, which was most possibly used during his first robbery case. Using the same name can also reveal something of his mental workings. And had he used his true, it would be easy to understand his motives and psychopathology.

Growing Confidence

Somewhere this serial robber started this modus as a test to his methods and guts. (Knowing this first case would be very helpful in understanding the mind of this criminal.) His apparent series of successes in targeting female dentists (some served their patients alone in their clinics, and without an assistant) seemed to embolden him lately. First, it was pure robbery as the motive. Later, he started experimenting with exhibitionism by masturbating before his victims. Lately, he gets bolder by raping his victims. Depending on his psychopathology, he might develop into a homicidal robber, considering he is armed.

UPDATE

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) finally caught on 29 August 2011 the suspect, an 32-year-old ex-convict named Albert Galang de la Cruz, after 10 alleged victims positively pointed at him in a police line-up at its headquarters at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
